Stories from the Admiralteisky District

In November 2010, I brought my art to an unconventional setting—a budget supermarket, "Pyaterochka." This exhibition, part of the "Stories from the Admiralteisky District" project organized by the charity fund "CEC Artslink," showcased a series of paintings inspired by scenes near the store. Featured works included portraits of local workers, a factory changing room, the entrance and window of the store "Halal," a soccer field with a torn net, and the entrance to "Admilarteiskie Werf" with its digital temperature display.

The five-day exhibit sparked varied reactions. One customer, visiting for vodka, was moved enough to donate 1,000 rubles to the fund. However, a store worker, upset that the paintings depicted non-Russian workers, caused a stir with a hateful outburst, even facing potential legal repercussions. Despite the challenges, the exhibit succeeded in creating dialogue among customers, staff, and management, bringing art into everyday life.
